The NCAA Eligibilty Center is the watch dog organization for NCAA Athletics. Their purpose is to validate that academic requirements are on track for a student athlete NCAA schools have interest in.
Student-athletes who plan to play NCAA Divisions I or II sports in college, must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center. This can be done once the sixth semester of high school is complete.
Students should review the worksheets for Division I and Division II to make sure they will have 16 core classes completed by graduation. Divisions I and II use sliding scales to match test scores and GPAs to determine eligibility.
Students interested in Division III schools do not need to register.
College Coaches do NOT go to the NCAA ELIGIBILITY CENTER to find athletes, they find athletes, then go to the ELIGIBILITY CENTER to see if they are academically eligible
Effective, Spring 2023, NCAA permanently eliminates standardized test score requirement for Division I and II. The other academic requirements will remain in place. College-bound student-athletes planning to compete at an NCAA Division I or II school are still required to have a grade-point average of 2.3 for Division I and 2.2 for Division II in 16 NCAA-approved core-course units and provide proof of high school graduation.
Students may still need to take the SAT for admission to a particular college or university or for an academic scholarship that might complement an athletic grant, so it is up to the student to determine whether or not to take the test.
All students interested in playing in the NAIA league must register with the eligibility center.
