PCP TLC participants in the Academia Track will be matched with didactic teaching opportunities based on availability and their interests. Participants will work directly with a faculty mentor, content expert and course coordinator to develop engaging sessions that utilize active learning strategies thoughtfully selected to aid in the achievement of the learning objectives developed. Although specific timelines will be negotiated on an individual basis, the timeline example below may serve as a starting point.
Minimum Requirements:
Compose learning objectives (LOs)
Develop content and materials related to LOs
Deliver information or otherwise lead students to learn information related to LOs
Assess student's learning and achievement of LOs (exam/quiz questions, audience response, feedback forms)
Have a faculty member observe the session and provide feedback (Didactic Teaching Observation Form)
Example Didactic Preparation Timeline
45 days before: 3-5 learning objectives per 1 hour of teaching
30 days before: 3 exam questions
30 days before: Class plan and slides
30-20 days before: Practice session with slide review
15 days before: Final drafts of class plan, slides and handouts
10 days before: Final slides with lecture narrative in NOTES section of slide
Day of: Feedback forms for students and didactic observation forms for faculty
Immediately after: Feedback with faculty and high fives for a job well done
