About
My name is Mari Yoneda. I am currently a reading intervention specialist pursuing my teacher librarian credential and completing a Master’s Degree in Library Information Science at San José State University. I am passionate about providing supports for students in order to create positive learning experiences.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz in Community Studies and received my multiple subject teaching credential from California State University, Sacramento. I have worked in various educational settings. While in college, I created and taught workplace literacy curriculum for electronics assemblers in Silicon Valley. After college, I was the Educational Director at the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Cruz. For the past twenty years, I have been an elementary classroom teacher and reading intervention specialist in California. For my teaching career, I have chosen to work in schools with high needs and serve a student population that requires additional support and resources to achieve academic success.
I am well skilled as an educator as I continually find new and effective ways to support and engage my students. I work collaboratively with others, such as when I trained teachers in guided reading. I am a good listener, while I support teachers and families with their students as they struggle to learn how to read. I work hard on any team at my school site to ensure we meet the end goals with success and volunteer my time for any school event. I am excited to transfer my skills and goals of equity and access as a teacher to that of a teacher librarian or public librarian.
