Milton, J. (2022). The big book of pride flags. Jessica Kingsley Publishers.
This children's picture book teaches readers about the history and meaning behind the different pride flags.
The illustrations throughout the books are visually appealing but also diverse and inclusive.
The simple history and overview of each flag is perfect for children to grasp the basics. While created for children, this book is perfect for any reader to pick up and use as a starting point in their exploration of LGBTQIA+ concepts. Parents and educators may enjoy this book.
Woodgate, H. (2023). Grandad's pride. Little Bee Books.
Grandad's Pride is one of the most visually stunning and wholesome children's books I have ever read. The story is about Milly finding a pride flag in her grandfather's attic and becomes inspired to start a pride parade in her small town.
This picture book is not only entertaining and easy to follow for children, but also thought provoking for adults to read as well (subtle allusion to death of other grandfather).
The illustrations are not only GORGEOUS but the representation is outstanding.
This book is truly perfect for readers of all ages and a great introduction to pride celebrations.

This juvenile non-fiction book is a great read to understand the history and significance of the Stonewall Riots and LGBTQIA+ movement.
The author explains LGBTQIA+ history before, during, and after the Stonewall Riots through interviews, photos, newspaper clippings, and more.
This book is geared towards younger teens and presents LGBTQIA+ history in an easy to read way and is an excellent introduction to the LGBTQIA+ movement.
Thomas, A. (2020). Cemetery boys. Swoon Reads.
Cemetery Boys is one of my favorite books.
This paranormal fantasy book follows 16 year old Yadriel, a Latine trans boy, who is determined to prove to his family that he is a real brujo by performing the ritual his family has denied him in front of Lady Death.
The author does an exceptional job at handling such sensitive topics such as transphobia, family conflicts, grief, and more.
This book is filled with so much tenderness and enchantment.

Oseman uses stunning illustrations and storytelling to handle topics like queer romance, bulling, mental health, self-harm, eating disorders, LGBTQIA+ life, and more in such simple yet captivating ways.

Bors, M., Lubchansky, M., Mirk, S., & Harris, E. (Eds.). (2020). Be gay, do comics. Idea & Design Works.
Filled with satire, history, personal stories, and more, this collection of queer voices is educational, thought provoking, and entertaining to read.
The comics in this inclusive collection cover such a wide array of topics and events through a lot of different voices and perspectives.
I enjoyed the representation of the autobiographical pieces, but was impressed with the amount of comics dedicated to LGBTQIA+ historic events and biographies.
Adults will find this comic anthology entertaining and a great introduction to topics related to gender identity, the LGBTQIA+ movement, and more.
