SJSU Math Noyce Grant
About the SJSU ITEP Noyce Project
The BA Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) major is designed for students interested in teaching mathematics in high school or middle school. Math ITEP students learn to teach math literacy-driven performance tasks that are culturally relevant with a social justice focus.
The ITEP coursework satisfies requirements for (1) a BA in Mathematics, (2) a Single Subject Credential in mathematics (SSC), and (3) 21 units of the Education Specialist Preliminary Teaching Credential: Mild/Moderate Support Needs (ESC). The Mathematics, Integrated Teacher Education Program, BA has been approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) as an integrated undergraduate teacher preparation program. Students who complete the 4-year BA Math degree will be recommended to the CCTC for a preliminary single subject credential to teach middle school and high school mathematics. Students who complete the ESC requirements for an additional school year after graduation will be recommended to the CCTC for a preliminary education in mild to moderate services and earn a Master of Arts in Special Education. By the end of the program, Math ITEP students develop "integrated instructional practices" that enable them to teach math effectively in inclusive classrooms.

Noyce Scholarship Information
Our Math ITEP program has received grant funding from the NSF and the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program. In the year 2022-2023 we awarded 12 math ITEP students with Noyce Scholarships. Each scholarship is for an amount of $10,000. In the coming years, we will have the ability to fund up to 48 more scholarships to support ITEP students completing the bachelor's degree and/or a Master's degree in Special Education. Students may receive funding for more than one year!
ELIGIBILITY TO APPLY: You are eligible to apply for this scholarship if you meet these requirements:
you are a declared Math ITEP major
you have reached Junior/Upper-division status in the ITEP program (or will reach Junior status by the beginning of fall year 3)
you have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
you have been accepted to year 3 of the formal ITEP program (see the module for applying to the program here -- If you are an ITEP student at SJSU and need access to this Canvas page, contact David Goulette -- david.goulette@sjsu.edu)
INFORMATION ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP AND REQUIREMENTS
We recently held a meeting explaining the basic details of the program. Please watch the video linked below. Note that we are currently working through the details of the program and funding and we will continue to clarify the conditions and requirements.

Corrections and clarifications that we learned since the meeting linked above:
There is a GPA requirement to be admitted to the formal ITEP program of 2.5. This is the same requirement to be eligibly to apply for the the Noyce Scholarship. After a student becomes a noyce scholar and recieves the scholarship, they are expected to maintain a GPA of at least 2.75 in the years of the program for which the Noyce funds were awarded (this GPA requirement does not include courses prior to receiving the scholarship, only the GPA for Junior and/or Senior level courses taken during the year(s) you receive funding.)

Noyce Project Documents
ITEP students that have been accepted to the formal Teacher Education part of the program (Year 3, Year 4, and/or the optional Master's Degree Year), may apply for the $10,000 Noyce Scholarship. Applications for this Scholarship will go out in April of each spring semester along with an invitation to an info session on the requirements for the scholarship (to be held in April as well). Once a student has been chosen to be a Noyce Scholar (meaning they will be awarded the $10,000 scholarship), they are required to complete the financial aid application document.
The documents we use for our financial aid process can be found here.
