SJSU Math Noyce Grant

About the SJSU ITEP Noyce Project

The BA Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) major is designed for students interested in teaching mathematics in high school or middle school. Math ITEP students learn to teach math literacy-driven performance tasks that are culturally relevant with a social justice focus.

The ITEP coursework satisfies requirements for (1) a BA in Mathematics, (2) a Single Subject Credential in mathematics (SSC), and (3) 21 units of the Education Specialist Preliminary Teaching Credential: Mild/Moderate Support Needs (ESC). The Mathematics, Integrated Teacher Education Program, BA has been approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) as an integrated undergraduate teacher preparation program. Students who complete the 4-year BA Math degree will be recommended to the CCTC for a preliminary single subject credential to teach middle school and high school mathematics. Students who complete the ESC requirements for an additional school year after graduation will be recommended to the CCTC for a preliminary education in mild to moderate services and earn a Master of Arts in Special Education. By the end of the program, Math ITEP students develop "integrated instructional practices" that enable them to teach math effectively in inclusive classrooms.

Noyce Project Documents

ITEP students that have been accepted to the formal Teacher Education part of the program (Year 3, Year 4, and/or the optional Master's Degree Year), may apply for the $10,000 Noyce Scholarship.  Applications for this Scholarship will go out in April of each spring semester along with an invitation to an info session on the requirements for the scholarship (to be held in April as well).  Once a student has been chosen to be a Noyce Scholar (meaning they will be awarded the $10,000 scholarship), they are required to complete the financial aid application document.

The documents we use for our financial aid process can be found here.
