The 120-unit B.A. Math ITEP is designed for students interested in teaching mathematics in grades 6–12. Students are prepared to provide mathematics instruction to typically developing middle and high school students, as well as to students with mild to moderate support needs. The combined undergraduate/credential coursework satisfies the requirements for:
a B.A. in Mathematics;
a 36-unit Preliminary Single Subject Teaching Credential in Mathematics; and
21 units of SJSU’s Education Specialist Credential for Students Needing Mild to Moderate Support Services.
Students who complete the four-year B.A. Math ITEP degree will be recommended to the CTC for a Preliminary Single Subject Credential to teach middle and high school mathematics.
Students who complete the Education Specialist requirements during an additional year of study after graduation will be recommended to the CTC for a Preliminary Education Specialist Credential to support students with mild to moderate support needs.
All B.A. Math ITEP graduates possess the mathematical knowledge needed to teach diverse learners in inclusive and sheltered classrooms.
