Additional Procedures and Regulations

Changing Programs

Students interested in changing graduate programs should first contact the graduate advisor in the new prospective program to determine any possible new admission requirements and if the student can be admitted into the new program. The student will be required to submit a Change of Graduate Program Petition which shall be approved by the new department. Students approved for a change in program will receive an update from the GAPE office about their new program status. In most cases, new program requirements will be different than the previous program and a new candidacy form will have to be created if the student advanced to candidacy in the previous program.

Second Master's Degree

Students are eligible to complete a second master's degree at SJSU following the posting of the first degree. The student must apply for admission for the second degree and may apply up to 1/3 of the units completed in the previous degree. Thus, a student may be permitted to apply up to 10 units toward a 30 unit program.
