Recruitment Best Practices
Bring a cart if you have a program/department tent or materials such as tablecloths or table tents to ensure they travel safely to their destination.
Set up a tent and/or table with a tablecloth. Having these items draws better attention to the event/will draw folks to your table.
Having signage that can be read from afar can also help get more people to stop by your table. Consider a stand-up banner or flyer.
Make sure to have flyers and/or brochures that are captivating for your audience. Print more than usual so you do not run out.
Create a digital flyer or a flyer with a QR code for folks that may be interested in having a digital copy.
Bring "swag", or incentive pieces, to draw an audience. People love free stuff!
Be engaged! Show excitement for your institution or program and listen actively to student comments and questions. If you don’t know an answer to their question immediately, plan to follow up with them with the answer as soon as you find it.
Consider having current graduate students attend and talk about their experience in the program. Offer your students this best practice sheet for quick tips.
Bring an iPad, or another electronic device, to capture contact information of interested students who stop by your table. Add this to your lead database for future communications.
Send an email to students who stopped by your table with information about your program and a simple ‘thank you". Continue your nurture communications.
