2026 RSCA Assigned Time Information
Review of 2024-2025 Process
The Dean’s Office held several meetings with the Department Chairs and the RSCA Advisory Committee during summer and fall 2024 to simplify and clarify the RSCA Assigned Time assessment process. The new rubric, implemented in spring 2025, is simpler and provides an opportunity to share the amount of time dedicated to RSCA activities and items. The CoSS RSCA Adivsory Committee will assess strengths and gaps in the 2024-2025 process to identify areas for clarification and improvement.

Who Needs to Register/Apply/Report
REGISTRATION
Probationary faculty completing their second year/entering their third year must “register” for the RSCA Assigned Time program; given productive RSCA activity and available funds, probationary faculty will continue in the RSCA Assigned Time program until tenured.
APPLICATION
Probationary Faculty who are candidates for tenure should apply for the RSCA Assigned Time program (tenure is effective August).
Tenured faculty who are not currently on the RSCA Assigned Time program may apply for the RSCA Assigned Time program.
Tenured faculty who are ending a 3 or 5 year RSCA Assigned Time award must reapply for renewal for up to 3 years of RSCA Assigned Time.
REPORT
Annual Report
Tenured faculty who are ending year 1 or 2 (for 3- or 5-year RSCA Assigned Time award) or ending year 4 (for 5 year RSCA Assigned Time award) must submit a completed rubric/productivity report and materials to continue on the program; having a current 3-year or 5-year RSCA Assigned Time award does not guarantee continued program awards.
Probationary faculty who are registered for RSCA Assigned Time who are not yet candidates for tenure must submit a completed rubric/productivity report and materials to continue on the program; being on RSCA Assigned Time does not guarantee continuation on RSCA Assigned Time.
3-year Report
Tenured faculty who are ending year 3 in a 5-year RSCA Assigned Time award must submit a rubric/productivity report and narrative report about the previous 3 years and an agenda for the remaining 2 years of RSCA Assigned Time activities; having a current 5-year RSCA Assigned Time award does not guarantee continued program awards.
