INTERNET SAFETY
INTERNET SAFETY
It's the school holidays—let's work together to support off-device fun, limit screen time, and stay safe online!
Online Gaming Safety for Parents
Always supervise your children if gaming online, and ensure they are not in contact with unknown users.
Its important to follow legal age restrictions when your child accesses online platforms. Many games are designed for older audiences and may expose younger users to inappropriate content or interactions.
Make sure that your child is sleeping soundly and is not playing games well into the night. We strongly recommend that children are not given access to devices in their bedrooms.
Essential Information for Parents
The eSafety Commission offers a wealth of resources to help parents navigate online gaming safely.

🔹 Help them understand how quickly small amounts can add up.
🔹 Set a spending limit for games and apps — weekly or monthly.
🔹 Use parental controls on mobile devices and consoles to:
Restrict in-game purchases
Require permission for downloads and spending

SAFER INTERNET DAY TUESDAY 11th FEBRUARY
Safer Internet Day (SID) is an annual event that raises awareness about online safety. It provides an opportunity for our students to learn how to be safe online and to learn about a positive online environment. This Tuesday our students can dress up as someone who helps them to celebrate the day.
Having a Trusted Adult
A key message of Safer Internet Day is having a trusted adult to turn to when faced with online problems. It is crucial for students to know who they can talk to if they feel unsafe or uncomfortable online.
The Helping Hand and Identifying Trusted Adults
The Helping Hand helps students identify trusted adults. In our class activities, students draw around their hand and list five trusted adults that they can turn to for help or advice.
Kids Helpline
The Kids Helpline (1800 55 1800) is a free, 24/7 counselling service for young people in Australia. Knowing about the Kids
Helpline gives children extra confidence that help is always available.

Cyber Safety Evening Wednesday 8th May
Congratulations to the Year 6 Leaders who planned and presented games and information at the Cyber Safety Evening. This event was well attended by Year 3 to 5 students and their parents. The main focus of the night was to share the importance of maintaining positive and supportive communication with your children about their online experiences and concerns. Recent student survey data shows that only 50% of our current Year 6 students will talk to someone about a serious problem. We need to encourage our students to seek help when the problem first occurs so that any harmful effects can be minimised.
The parents enjoyed the games of Kahoots and Bingo. The presentation was engaging and fun. The winners of the games won boxes of chocolates and there were some lovely door prizes.
The Year 6 Leaders we competent and confident. They enjoyed the evening meal at the Korean restaurant before the presentation.
Thank you Student Voice and Wellbeing Leaders.

Please make sure your child is dressed suitably for the weather and has suitable footwear for outside play. This is an online service where students can talk to a trained adult about any problem.
Safer Internet Day 2023 Tuesday 7th February
Safer Internet Day (SID) is a day of international focus on the positve aspects of the Internet. It promotes digitial respect and responsibility and focuses on making the online space a better place. At St Joseph's we use this event to promote postive digital practices. What students do and view at home has a huge impact on their mental wellbeing, their real life relationships and how they function and connect with classmates at school. This is an area where home and school must work together to support the child. If you need any support or have problems please talk firstly to the classroom teacher and then discuss the situation with school leadership so the situation can be resolved.
