English Language Arts

Description:

In alignment with the Missouri Learning Standards, the Saint Joseph School District Third Grade English Language Arts course will provide students with a solid foundation in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Students will acquire the skills necessary to decode and understand what they are reading and produce works across the various genres. 

The course will require students to shift from learning how to read text to reading text to learn, focusing on fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension of fiction and nonfiction pieces. Students will also strengthen their writing skills as they further their studies on the three main genres (narrative, informational, and opinion).
