Dr. Zhang advises graduate students from both Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Department of Computer Science at Michigan Tech as a committee chair. He also serves as a committee member for graduate students from other departments including Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Mathematical Sciences at Michigan Tech. To commit to diversity and recognize the barriers faced by women and other minorities in engaging science, Dr. Zhang has actively recruited and mentored women students in his research group at Michigan Tech. Dr. Zhang has been working with three women Ph.D. students, seven women undergraduate students, and one women high school student since 2013.
