Jewish of Schopfloch

The Jewish community played a central role in the history of the place. The first of them settled in Schöpfloch in the 14th century and were engaged in the cattle trade. They lived in good neighborliness with the Christians. There is a large Jewish cemetery in the place, which dates back to 1612. From the neighborly life of Jews and Christians, a special local dialect (some consider it a language) developed called "Lachudisch" which is still understood by the older generation in the place, who consider it a kind of secret language.

"Lachudisch" (also called Lachoüdisch or Lachoüdisch)

is a sociolect that was used among the residents of the settlement of Schöpfloch, in the state of Bavaria, Germany. The dialect developed from Hebrew (it has great similarities to Yiddish) and from the local Rotwelsch languages. The name of the language may be a corruption of the words "holy tongue", i.e. Hebrew. It was spoken by the Jews and the Christian residents of Schöpfloch. The language expresses to some extent the occupation of its speakers, as some words even relate to the cattle market. There have been no Jews in Schopfloch in recent generations. The local residents are proud of the language, and call it a "secret language".

The number of words known today in the Holkodish language is about 400. It is possible that in the past, when it was a living language, it had many more words

In 1969, Karl Philip, the local teacher, who taught in Schopfloch for about forty years, published a booklet that is a trivial study of the Holkodish language, and is accompanied by a small dictionary.

The existence of Holkodish was first revealed to the wider world in a television report broadcast in Israel on March 12, 1981 by European Broadcasting Authority correspondent Zvi Li-Dar. The report aroused great interest worldwide and was even quoted extensively on the front page of the New York Times.

All attempts made since this publication to save the Kodish and preserve it for future generations have been in vain

יהודי שופפלוך

הקהילה היהודית מילאה תפקיד מרכזי בהיסטוריה של המקום. הראשונים שבהם התיישבו בשופפלוך במאה ה-14 ועסקו בסחר בקר. הם חיו בשכנות טובה עם הנוצרים. במקום ישנו בית קברות יהודי גדול, שראשיתו בשנת 1612. מחיי השכנות של יהודים ונוצרים התפתח ניב מקומי מיוחד (יש הרואים בו שפה) בשם "לכודיש" אשר עדיין מובן על ידי הדור המבוגר במקום, הרואים בו מעין שפת סתרים.

"לכודיש"(נקראת גם לחודיש או לחוידיש Lachoüdisch) 

היא סוציולקט שהיה בשימוש בקרב תושבי היישוב שופפלוך, שבמדינת בוואריה שבגרמניה. הניב התפתח מן העברית (יש לו דמיון רב ליידיש) ומשפות רוטוולש (Rotwelsch) המקומיות ייתכן ששמה של השפה הוא שיבוש המילים "לשון קודש", כלומר עברית. דיברו בה היהודים ותושביה הנוצרים של שופפלוך. השפה מבטאת במידת מה את עיסוקם של דובריה, שכן מילים אחדות אף נוגעות לשוק הבקר . אין בדורות האחרונים יהודים בשופפלוך. התושבים המקומיים גאים בשפה, ומכנים אותה "שפת סתרים

מספר המילים הידועות כיום בשפת הלכודיש – כ-400. ייתכן שבעבר, כאשר הייתה שפה חיה, היו בה מילים רבות יותר

בשנת 1969 פרסם קארל פיליפ, המורה המקומי, שלימד בשופפלוך במשך כארבעים שנה, ספרון שהוא מחקר זוטא על שפת הלכודיש, והוא מלווה במילון קטן

קיומה של הלכודיש נחשף לראשונה לעולם הרחב בכתבת טלוויזיה ששודרה בישראל ב-12 במרץ 1981 על ידי כתב רשות השידור באירופה  לי-ד הכתבה עוררה עניין רב בעולם ואף צוטטה בהרחבה בעמודו הראשון של הניו יורק טיימס

.כל הניסיונות שנעשו מאז בעקבות הפרסום הזה להציל את הלכודיש ולשמרה לדורות הבאים עלו בתו
