Rubbout

RUBBOUT is a volunteer organization based in Vancouver that hosts an annual social and play weekend for men who love men in rubber and fetish gear.

Rubbout is the longest running gay rubber weekend in North America (possibly in the world). The first Rubbout in 1992 was billed as “A weekend of Rubber Events” and included a Friday meet & greet, a Saturday play party, and a Sunday Pot luck dinner with demos. This successful format continues today with a few minor improvements. In 1994, brunch replaced Sunday’s potluck dinner and over time additional events were added like a swap meet (1994), puppy play (2008) and workshops (2019).

Attendance has grown to around 150 weekend passholders and over 200 men at the Friday night bar event and Saturday night play party from all over the world. Rubbout takes another leap forward in 2019 adopting a convention-style format, using a host hotel for all the events except the bar night and play party events. This allows for growth for the event into the future and a more dependable venue in which to host vendor markets, demonstration zones, and workshops.

Rubbout continues to be a non-profit community group with no paid staff. Any annual surplus is put towards making the next year’s Rubbout weekend even better. A team of volunteers who love having the tribes converge for celebration contributes to its success. None of it would be possible without the support of members of community groups such as Vancouver Rubbermen (VRM), Vancouver Men in Leather (VML) and Vancouver Pups and Handlers (Van-PAH).

Past and current team leaders/event producers are:

  • 1992 to 2003 Bill “Northwind” Houghton
  • 2004 to 2011 Mitch Kenyon
  • 2012 to 2016 Reid Dalgleish, Rob Pont, Doug Mitchell
  • 2017 to 2018 Andy Cook
  • 2019 to ? Mitch Kenyon and Javier Rodriguez-Martin

Rubbout is held in annually in Vancouver, BC around the first weekend of April. While sexy play in gear is a big part of the weekend, the best part of Rubbout is making friends from around the world.
