Assessment of Student Learning - The teacher understands, uses, and interprets formal and informal assessment strategies to evaluate and advance student performance and to determine program effectiveness.
For this teaching standard I have included a backward design lesson plan I completed in my assessment of learning class. I had to teach the class one of the chapters from our textbook. This chapter covered the uses of formative assessments, how to create power standards, and the importance of gauging individual students progress. It also clearly discussed the importance of assessments and the power they can have in your classroom. I feel this lesson truly shows my understanding of assessments and how they can be used in the classroom.
The other artifacts I have included are assessments I have given in my classroom. they are tests students have completed to help show how they performed on the exams I created. I try to make sure all students perform well, and explain how to correct their errors. I have even re-taught units if a large majority of students did not perform well on either formative or summative assessments. This usually means I missed them somewhere in my teaching and I do not fault the students for the misunderstanding; I just need to re-evaluate my approach and see if there is another way to explain the lesson to the student.
