Below are resources that have strengthened and shaped our understanding of what godly courtship and marriage should be under God's original plan. Going into marriage ourselves we are not naive to the blessing and responsibility bestowed upon us for holding onto God's truth about marriage.
Websites:
Boundless.org--A webzine from Focus on the Family for young adults. This website has been a daily inspiration on how to be a Christian concerning all manners of life: finances, work, church, family, and marriage.
YoungMarriedLife.com--Another great website from Focus on the Family that's geared towards newlyweds who are navigating through the toughest earliest years of marriage.
OrthodoxSermons.org--St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church of Washington, DC's one-stop shop for sermons on every topic you can think of--especially for marriage!
Books:
On Marriage and Family Life by St. John ChrysostomA timeless piece of work--written over 1500 years ago, yet St. John Chrysostom's words still convict and apply to this day. This book by far has had the most impact on our view of marriage and influential going into this sacrament.
Love & Respect by Emerson EggerichsIn a lot of ways Eggerichs just puts a more modern twist on what St. John Chrysostom said 1500 years earlier; however his explanation of "blue sunglasses" and "pink sunglasses" makes a lot of sense in dealing with any spouse (-to-be!)
Redeeming Love by Francine RiversThe only piece of fiction recommended here, Redeeming Love is the modern retelling of the book of Hosea set in the Gold Rush of 1850's California. Seeing the drama of Hosea undying love for his wife as told in this book will shed a better light on the Old Testament book, and more importantly, on God's unconditional love for us.
Boy Meets Girl by Joshua HarrisFrom the same author of I Kissed Dating Goodbye, Joshua Harris describes what a biblical courtship should look like in a very real and practical way. Movies:
Fireproof PGKirk CameronThough meant more for married couples, Fireproof certainly can teach lessons on how to love and forgive your spouse.
Meet the Parents PG-13 Robert De Niro, Ben StillerJust kidding!!! (sorta)
"There is no relationship between human beings so close as that of husband and wife, if they are united as they ought to be."
-- St. John Chrysostom, On Marriage and Family Life, Homily 20
