SPIN TOP MODS (not taking orders at this time)
Spin tops that sell in the 5 to 20 dollar range often spin very rough, are quite fragile, and have designs that haven't been updated in decades. This can all be very frustrating. I am here to reduce frustration and improve the performance of these spin tops. What I do to each top varies a little bit, but generally this is what I do:
Cut a hole in the crown. This reduces both top weight and center weight improving spin time and maneuverability. This also allows you to access the inside for maintenance without taking the cap off, allowing the cap to be semi-permanently or permanently attached to the body to improve durability. One more benefit; you can quickly store your string inside.
Heat shrink plastic around the seam instead of electrical tape to prevent breakage. Stronger, prettier, not sticky... better all the way around.
Balance it. Anybody can balance a spin top to spin smooth as silk if they have patience enough to learn how.
Provide a custom-made string the correct length to throw the top properly, including a button made of re-purposed plastic that fits in the hole.
