Biography

Yu-Huei Cheng (M'12–SM'17) received the M.S. degree and Ph.D. degree from the Department of Electronic Engineering,

National Kaohsiung University of Applied Sciences, Taiwan, in 2006 and 2010, respectively. He is a distinguished interdisciplinary scholar and educator with expertise spanning across information and communication technology, electronics and electrical engineering, and biomedical fields. His research encompasses areas like Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things (AIoT), microprocessor and embedded system development and applications, optimization techniques, automated imaging and visual technologies, mobile healthcare, and biomedical informatics methods and systems. Dr. Cheng has an impressive research record, having published 72 journal articles, 73 international conference papers, 64 national conference papers, and 8 book chapters, with a total citation count exceeding 1,600. Additionally, Dr. Cheng has been actively involved in various research projects, industry-academia collaborations, and teaching initiatives. He has led and co-led over 70 research projects and collaborative ventures in teaching and academia, earning accolades such as the sole recipient of the Outstanding Teaching Award at his university and the Excellent Teaching Practice Project Award in 2019. He has also served as a reviewer for the Ministry of Education's teaching practice research projects. Currently, Dr. Cheng holds the prestigious position of Distinguished Professor in the Department of Information and Communication at Chaoyang University of Technology. He is also the Deputy Secretary-General of the Taichung Software Park Development Industry-Academia-Training Alliance and the Head of the Department of Information and Communication at Chaoyang University of Technology. His previous roles include Administrative Research Secretary, Secretary of Research and Development, Head of the Department of Mobile Technology at Toko University, and Head of the Teaching Resources Division. In guiding students in competitions, his teams have achieved more than 50 awards. Academically, he has been the Associate Editor for the renowned international journal IEEE Access since 2018 and serves on editorial boards of numerous international journals. He has held significant roles in several international conferences, including Chair of IEEE iCAST 2023, Program Chair of TAAI 2021, and Publicity Chair of IEEE iCAST 2018, among others. Dr. Cheng is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Universal Association of Computer and Electronics Engineers (UACEE), Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), International Association of Engineers (IAENG), Taiwanese Association for Artificial Intelligence (TAAI), and a permanent member of the Taichung Software Park Development Industry-Academia-Training Alliance and the Taiwan Smart Electric Vehicle and Green Energy Technology Association.
