Biography

Professor Yu-Huei Cheng currently serves as Dean of the College of Informatics and Distinguished Professor in the Department of Information and Communication Engineering at Chaoyang University of Technology. His academic background spans three major domains, including information and communication technology, electrical and electronic engineering, and biomedical science, positioning him as a scholar with strong interdisciplinary integration capabilities. His research expertise encompasses artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, optimization algorithms, sensor technologies, mobile healthcare, and bioinformatics-related methods and systems.

In recent years, Professor Cheng has been deeply engaged in both theoretical research and practical applications of artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things, with a particular focus on the innovative development of intelligent systems and edge computing technologies. His research outcomes have been widely applied across diverse domains, including autonomous UAV flight and safety control, intelligent weighbridge systems, smart traffic violation recognition, smart campus smoking prevention, smart parking systems, intelligent robotic arms, AI-based facial recognition, unmanned vehicle path planning and control, smart animal management, aquarium management systems, intelligent table tennis scoring systems, AIoT-enabled smart manufacturing machine vision inspection, agricultural product defect detection, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) primer design in biomedical applications, and COVID-19 mask-wearing detection. These achievements demonstrate the strong practical orientation and societal impact of his research.

Since embarking on his academic career, Professor Cheng has published more than one hundred academic and technical papers and has led or participated in over eighty research projects, including university-level and national research grants, industry-academia collaboration projects, and teaching practice programs. He has also devoted significant effort to mentoring students in various competitions, with more than seventy award-winning achievements, reflecting his outstanding performance in both research and education.

In terms of academic service, Professor Cheng currently serves as Associate Editor of the internationally renowned journal IEEE Access and has previously acted as guest editor and editorial board member for numerous international journals covering areas such as artificial intelligence, embedded systems, low-power electronics, biomedical informatics, remote sensing, and high-performance computing. In addition, he has held key roles in many international academic conferences, including Program Chair, Publication Chair, Publicity Chair, and Technical Program Committee Member, demonstrating his long-term commitment to the global academic community.

Professor Cheng is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and is also an active member of multiple domestic and international professional societies, contributing extensively to academic organizations and industry-academia research collaboration. Regarding teaching and research honors, he has received continuous funding from the Ministry of Education Teaching Practice Research Program from 2018 to 2026 and was awarded the Teaching Practice Excellence Award in both 2019 and 2024. He has also received multiple Outstanding Researcher Awards from the National Science and Technology Council, as well as the Distinguished Talent Recruitment and Retention Award from Chaoyang University of Technology. Furthermore, from 2019 to 2026, he has been consecutively honored with the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award in Computer Science by the Taiwan Academic Innovation Society, underscoring his sustained and widely recognized academic excellence.
