Liam Dickson (Glasgow) - "Perturbations of C*-algebras"

Abstract

Kadison and Kastler introduced a metric for C*-algebras on a Hilbert space and conjectured that two C*-algebras which are close with respect to this metric are necessarily isomorphic. We may also ask if this isomorphism can be implemented by a unitary operator and if this operator can be chosen to be close, in norm, to the identity. I will give some examples of classes of C*-algebra where the conjecture is true and discuss to what extent we can expect the positive answers for the subsequent questions.
