Supplies needed:
1. "Introduction to Value" handout (below)
2. Answers to handout (below)
3. drawing pencils and sketchbooks (or paper)
Instructions:
1. Fill in the blanks with the students about value and value scales
2. Students complete five value scales on the handout, cut them out and glue them in their sketchbook for marking later.
3. Students complete four basic shapes using value techniques in their sketchbooks for marking later.
4. Help students practice
5. A few tips: neatness counts, minimal pencil lines, NO SMUDGING, outlines are light, use a full range of value (each box is neat, distinct for the other and fill boxes in completely) and the lines for shading follow the contour of the object.
