Self-Certification

Since the introduction of Part P of the building regulations in 2005 it has been legal for any person that subscribes to a competent person scheme (such as that run by the NICEIC) to self certify their own work.

Unfortunately, this has been seen as an opportunity by the scheme providers to charge the installers for the use of their stationery.

I have nothing in principle against this but I feel that the individual should be allowed to choose whether to spend his/her profits on paperwork or otherwise.
