The talk presents some recent models and mathematical results for
contact, wear, adhesion, and damage of systems consisting of rods
and beams, that may be elastic, viscoelastic or thermoviscoelastic.
In particular, we describe the barber heat exchange condition.
We also present various variants of the problems that are new,
and of applied and mathematical interest.
