Cassian Handouts

This page contains some of the handouts on the Course "Introduction to John Cassian".

This Course has three parts:

a) Introduction to the Early Church and Christian Communities. Charts and diagrams are provied for people who are new to the subject, focusing on areas which many find unusual in the 21st Century.

[Those who are not familiar with it are strongly advised to read the Rule of Benedict at this point. This is not covered here as there are many useful guides and introductions elsewhere].

b) Introduction to the Institutes of John Cassian.

c) Introduction to the Conferences of John Cassian.

Also provided are Reading Lists for further information and various summaries of some of the key Institutes and Conferences.

People who are not used to reading Church Fathers are advised to attend some of the modules from "Living Life with the Early Church", which provides a clear additional foundation and background.
