TNW 5

GM TEAM:

Gareth Williams

Henry Russel

Rich Shipley

TNW continues at three heats with a little bit of market segmentation:

Heat I Monday – Augereau:

This is intended as a CAT A game for experienced players only. Beginners will have other opportunities during the week.

Heat II: Wednesday - Collingwood

This heat will be a CAT C with beginners welcome; the demo will be immediately beforehand.

Heat III: Thursday – Bagration.

Normal CAT B rules apply.

Rules:

2ndEdition Rules with the current FAQ will be the default.

1stEdition will only be acceptable if there are not enough 2nd Edition sets.

Well, that did not come up

House Rules and Pacing:

GMs will review the pace of the games throughout the tournament. Games are intended to finish within the time indicated; going beyond this will only be acceptable if all parties have agreed a finish time at the start of the game.

This did come up, and while everyone wasn't happy the spirit was adhered to.

For next time I shall look at splitting people up at sign up into short (I want to finish on time) and long (I don't care how long this takes) at sign up

Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday:

Any game not finished by midnight will finish at the end of the current turn

Tuesday:

Any game not finished by 1800 will finish at the end of the current turn

Side determination and drawing:

Draws and side allocation for Heats I and III will be random, II will be dependent upon the needs of coached games.

The only caveats to that will be that players with their own sets will draw first so that they do not have to move, players who have already played in a previous heat will draw after them and re-draw if they get a side they have already played.

A number of counters equal the players will go into the hat for a random draw

So if there are 17 players there will be three 4 player games and one 5 player game.

Therefore in the hat will be:

French, British, Austrian, Russian, Prussian INFANTRY 1

French, British, Austrian, Russian, Prussian CAVALRY 2

French, British, Austrian, Russian, Prussian ARTILLERY 4

French, British, Austrian, Russian, ARMY 6

All the infantry will play together and so on.

If more than 4 games are needed extra INFANTRY will go in the hat as needed and the first ones out will form one game and the second the other, and so on.

Most games will be 5 player, though depending on numbers there may be some 4 or even 3 games out there (the latter is only going to happen in a heat of 6, 7, or 11)

This did not work on Monday, largely because I forgot which table was which. I had meant to prepare some signs for each table but did not get the chance - index cards on Thursday and for next time

Semi Finals:

It is likely that there will be two semi-finals, there will only be 3 if there have been more than 10 winners in the Heats (regardless of how many turn up - this has to be planned in advance)

Ok, mea culpa, we did go to 5 semis for various reasons, however the seeding was kept and generally considered an improvement.

Tie-breakers and place assignment will be as follows:

3 wins + overall VP count

2 wins + overall VP count

1 win + overall VP count

3 second place + overall VP count

2 second place + overall VP count

1 second place + overall VP count

The best positioned players from the heats will pick sides first

Final:

If there have been 2 semis the finalists will be, in order of side determination

Semi Winner with most VP

Other semi-winner

Semi 2nd place with most VP

Other Semi-winner

3rdplace with most VP.

If there have been 3 semis the finalists will be:

Winner with most VP

Winner with 2nd VP

Winner with 3rd VP

2ndplace with most VP

2ndplace with 2nd VP

Insanely prepared reference documentation:

In the case of 2 semi final games the players will be assigned as follows:

In the case of 3 games as follows:
