McKeith, David - Paintings

Creator's Statement:

My art is all about the land. Most of my subjects are the color, temperature, and mood of those remaining parts of this good earth that are still in a state of wildness. I wish to speak for a renewed reverence for the land, for what The Buddha called the sacredness of “Nature’s life force and intelligent energy.” Not an academic painter and largely self-taught, I avoid formal artistic rules in order that I may let flower the individuality of my own expression. Nor am I a topographical realist, for I strive to capture the essence of a place, a pictorial extract that contains the spirit of the landscape, its ambience and feeling. I wish my artistic work to be evocative rather than descriptive; poetic and reminiscent rather than literal. I am not a narrator, a storyteller. Rather, I hope my paintings stir one’s emotions and imagination, enliven one’s senses, and reaffirm our elemental connection to the sky and earth below. I am a juried Associate member of Oil Painters of America, a national organization whose sole purpose is to focus attention on the lasting value of traditional, representative art.

David shares the above website with his wife Priscilla, who is also a landscape painter.
