Countries (Diagnosis)

In total, Edith Wharton mentions twelve different countries the world over in this story. One could say that Wharton likes to refer to places with interesting and mostly ancient history as well and places with coastal regions. The only cities mentioned that are rather far from the seaside are Florence (approximately 45 kilometers until seaside) and the Austrian Alps including Vienna (100-200 kilometers, linear distance); but especially these places have a highly attractive historic background.[i]
