Vienna (Diagnosis)

Vienna is the capital of Austria and has a historic town center, similar to Genoa. In the early 20th century Vienna had 20 million inhabitants.[i]

Since the psychotherapist Sigmund Freud lived in Vienna it is also called The City of Dreams. For some American citizens European - especially Viennese - physicians might have seemed more advanced in scientific matters than American doctors which leads to the fact that Paul Dorrance believes in the Viennese specialists diagnosis unconditionally.

Sigmund Freud and the circumstance that Vienna was considered as a modern and highly developed place created a confident surrounding for consultations such as Dorrance’s.

Furthermore, Edith Wharton must favored Vienna for its baroque buildings and - during her time - the newly designed Vienna Ring Road which was also the symbol of current architecture combined with classical, gothic, baroque and renaissance styles.[ii]
