This section details the communications between the spotter and net control that are to transpire during a weather net. Understandably, we can not anticipate every situation. Therefore, all stations should follow the direction of the net control operator (NCO). All communications should be as short as possible while still being clear. Communications between relay stations and net controllers regarding situational readiness may take place as needed.
Spotter Check-in:
Spotters should check into the net when ready to begin making their observations and are able to monitor the net. Spotters are able to check in at any time. However, we would ask that you do it as early as possible.
Example:
Spotter: WC9RA Check-in
NCO: WC9RA Checked in. K9ILJ
Spotter Check-out:
Spotters should check out of the net when not able to make observations or are unable to monitor the net. Spotters are able to check out at any time. And are welcome to check back in when ready to begin making their observations and monitor the net.
Example:
Spotter: WC9RA Check-out
NCO: WC9RA Checked out. K9ILJ
Spotter Emergency:
If the spotter should experience a life or limb emergency, they should attempt to contact emergency services by other methods. If the spotter is unable to do so, the net will do so on their behalf. A spotter should say the word "emergency" after their call and the net will be frozen until emergency services have made contact with the spotter. ALL OTHER TRAFFIC MUST STOP.
Example:
Spotter: WC9RA EMERGENCY
NCO: All Stations All Stations WC9RA has declared an emergency the net is now frozen. The net is now frozen.
Making storm report:
See the Report Format Page for more information.
Net Control Situation Report:
The net control may provide reports on current radar, watches, warnings, or other NWS products. This is a general announcement for all on the net. There is no need to acknowledge this report unless asked to by the net controller.
