Meetings:

Friends of Watson Park (FOWP) will meet monthly. The schedule will be impacted by availability of meeting space. Currently, meetings are held in the Joyce Ellington Library Community Room. The next two meetings are scheduled for:

7:00 PM Monday, November 21, 2011

7:00 PM Tuesday, January 10, 2012

City Park Manager, Cindy Rebhan will attend the November and January meetings.

We will try to arrange future meetings so that they do not conflict with Monday Night Football and with other community meetings.

Subcommittees:

The FOWP will be organizing a Board of Directors to oversee and moderate committee work.

The following subcommittees were charged to bring wish lists to the November meeting.

Trees and Landscaping:

Chuck, Vicky and Silvana are working with Our City Forest (OCF) to propose locations and species to be planted in the park this winter. They met with several members of the City Parks department who are also in contact with OCF. The November 21 meeting will address this issue; We need to plant trees in the winter so they can get a good start.

Bicycle Racks:

Malissa has contacted Department Of Transportation to apply for grant-funded bicycle racks for 3-6 locations in the park. She has a list of proposed sites for discussion.

Soccer:

RJ made contact with the city parks staff. We would like to have soccer interests represented at each meeting.

Dog Park:

Chuck monitors the dog park and has been stocking the dog waste dispensers with bags purchased from donated funds.

Community Garden:

There is a lot of interest in re-establishing the community garden, however it is a big job. Silvana and Vicky will prioritize needs and work with the City staff to see how we can move this forward. We may need a sponsor if there is no pubic funding available.

Outreach:

FOWP needs to focus on fundraising. Malissa is working on a brochure that we can distribute at the park telling people how to join us and how to donate.

We would like to engage the teachers and students at Empire Gardens School. Sonia is our liaison with the school.

It would be good to have an identifiable event associated with our park - walk-a-thon, art festival, food fest, dog beauty contest, ???????
