As the story goes, you never know what you may find at a garage sale. In this case I found a new, old stock, FG-1D Corsair engine control quadrant. The Corsairs that were license built by Goodyear, to the same specifications as Vought’s Corsairs, were given the designation of FG, instead of F4U or F4, etc. So as I walked around this small sale in a small garage (the sign said "Huge Garage Sale") out in the middle of Michigan's Thumb corn and sugar beet lands, I noticed this engine quadrant right away. I knew it was a single engine WWII fighter, F9F, F4U, or something else, but I knew I was going to buy it. There was no price tag on it. I asked the woman there if she knew what it was. She said it was something that her father had. She knew it was to "some plane" that he made parts for during WWII but did not know which one. I told her I was interested in it and wondered what she was asking for it. She replied $30, and I said that was fine. She then told me that some guy asked if she would take $10 for it and she told him to walk.
I listed it on ebay, it went for over $300. I was shocked.
No the plane isn't for sale, but images can be sold.
