Gadgets with Story Points

Dave Chapman spoke about Gadgets with Story Points:

"You'd roll to use them if they're involved in a task the character could fail, just like any tool. The Gadget just gives them some extra abilities. For example, the Jetpack giving the Flight Trait, if they're just flying from one place to another you wouldn't roll, but if they had to dodge stuff, it's just the usual rolls like Coordination and Transport. The Gadget's not involved, it's just allowing them to fly.

You don't always spend Story Points, but you can to either boost the roll (as if the character was spending the points) or to make the Gadget do something it's not really done before. Like taking the jetpack off, aiming it at a target and using it as a missile - without a guidance system it's not likely to go where you want, but you could spend a Story Point to help - whether this is just hoping for a hit, or using the Story Point to justify some gadget tinkering to make it have a make-shift remote control, that's up to the story and the Gamemaster."
