University
I completed my undergraduate degree (Honours Bachelor of Arts) at the University of Toronto, specializing in English with a minor in History. During this program, I personally wrote many essays in MLA formatting, while I also edited APA style assignments for friends and family.
Throughout my university career, I was placed on the Honours List every year. Thus, at the end of the program, I graduated with High Distinction.
Teaching & Editing Experience
Since university, I have been focusing my efforts on freelance editing and my online work with Tutor.com (The Princeton Review). I have been working with Tutor.com for 5+ years and have always maintained a minimum rating of 4.5/5, while editing an average of about 100 essays per month.
If interested, I have attached statistics detailing my sessions, ratings, and student comments from my Tutor.com account, as well as some sample edited papers, under the "Resume, Ratings, & Samples" tab.
I have experience editing a wide range of assignments, such as personal reflections, literary analyses, persuasive essays, academic papers, admissions essays, narratives, fiction stories, career specific papers, lab reports, and more.
Teaching & Editing Philosophy
It is not my goal to quickly complete a student's assignment by writing out the paper myself and providing answers. I aim to correct errors in a drafted assignment, while also pinpointing exactly what is lacking in the student's writing, then explain and teach the required skills. Through this, the student will be able to correct other problems and spot errors that he or she would have never even noticed before. This method helps the student become independent, confident, and successful in his or her future work.
Depending on the student's needs and preference, I have a few options for the editing style I would use. Complete details are outlined on the "Rates & Price Calculation" tab. In short, I could either directly make corrections in the document, or I could leave comments in the margin so that students can make the changes themselves.
