Preface
Finding an editor can improve your current grades and benefit your future academics and career, if you get started early enough. This is especially true if you use an editor who not only corrects your paper, but also explains the changes in order to teach you the rules. Though, the cost of editing can be high sometimes, especially when working with an agency.
Personal
Large online editing services may look tempting, but quite often, you will not be getting what you expect. They generally offer quick and easy access to editors, with fast processing times, and only for a slightly higher cost than freelance editors like myself. Unfortunately, since the cost is only slightly higher, and the editors are only paid a small percentage of that, these companies tend to hire underqualified, underpaid, desperate workers. On the contrary, since I do not have business operating expenses, nor employee salaries to pay, I am able to charge a fair price, while still earning a fair wage.
Honest Pricing
Some editors make a distinction between initial editing (content & organization), final editing (grammar & word choice), as well as proofreading (typos & oversights). This means that you may end up paying someone to fully edit your paper, but they only do one of these processes, and then they expect you to pay again to move on to the next phase. With me, you can be sure that your one-time payment covers all aspects of editing and proofreading; only one order is required to get your assignment ready for submission (unless there are major content flaws and/or you choose to make major content changes).
Also, some editors charge by the hour. This is clearly easy to exaggerate, in order to increase the price you have to pay. Charging per page is convenient and slightly better, but then customers have to worry about margins, diagrams, graphs, and all other aspects that affect the number of pages. Since I price based on the word count, you can be sure you are paying for exactly what it is that I am working on - the words in your document.
Experience & Qualifications
I graduated from the University of Toronto with High Distinction when I completed the English Specialist and History Minor programs (Honours Bachelor of Arts). Furthermore, as I have been working with Tutor.com (The Princeton Review) for 5+ years, I am in a unique position where I can provide detailed statistics about my performance. This includes proof of subject mastery (each subject required a content exam), proof of past work (70+ sessions per month), aggregated student ratings (4.5+/5 star rating), student comments, as well as samples of edited papers. You can view this data on the "Resume, Ratings, & Samples" tab.
While working with Tutor.com, I have edited a wide variety of work, such as personal reflections, admissions essays, fiction stories, persuasive essays, critical analyses, lab reports, academic papers, career specific assignments, and much more. These assignments also use various style guides, so I am proficient with MLA, APA, Chicago, and Turabian styles.
Timeliness
Most orders are completed within 48 hours. In circumstances when I know it will take longer than 48 hours, I will notify you before accepting the request, in order to determine the urgency of the assignment. Depending on the document, I am usually able to do rush orders within 24 hours.
Commitment
I truly enjoy editing - not only do I get the opportunity to read about various topics, but I also have the ability to help students improve their writing skills and understanding of English. This leads to some benefits for you, as a customer, as well. First, I foresee myself continuing with freelance editing for many years to come; this means that if you work well with my editing style, we could continue to work together in the future and quite quickly hone your skills. Second, since I enjoy the work I am doing, you can feel confident that I take it seriously and carefully read every word on every page. Finally, unlike many editors who solely complete the edits, I put a strong focus on explanation and education while editing.
