Attentiveness is a challenge. You talk with someone, s/he say : yes.. yes.. even smiles and shakes s her/his head in agreement.. but what is going on in his/her mind? Is s/he attentive to what you are saying?. Now s/he is talking, are you fully focused to the message s/he is delivering, or are you only triggered by your own interest and the inner stories of your mind while s/he is talking?
Add to that process distractions such as text or phone calls, other triggers from external world (people, objects, noise, smells..) and the outcome is the fact that our attention is very fragile not consistent and jumpy.
Why this phenomenon of behavior doesn’t worry us? Because unfortunately we do it all and we accept is as our “natural behavior or perception” . After that we are surprise that there is such miscommunication is this world. We say “things went out of control” as if “things” have their own inner life dynamic” – the problem is – us – people, each every one of us.
Some people are more aware and search and apply tools to improve their self management, for instance ,do meditation.
There are some many meditations out there. And it takes a lot of motivation and self discipline to find the best one and be consistent. Only by applying a full body and mind meditation, you start noticing changes in you that are beyond “easy going relaxation”. You are calmer, your senses are sharper, you have more tolerance and compassion to people around you and last but not least, you are attentive to your own body and mind.
My advice to people that sees the importance of balanced body and mind and the need to exercise attentiveness : do Vibroacoustic therapy.

The thoughts are part of me, but my being is much more than my thoughts
My being is also the space between thoughts.
I observe thoughts as in my mind and calm them down
I calm my thoughts like a calm clear lake. And if I notice a thought rising up – it's
only natural. I’ll observe it, and calm it down.
I breathe deeply.... and I let it go...
I observe my emotions.
What emotion do I feel right now? Where in my body do I sense it?
What color does it have? How heavy is it? What's its name?
If I happen to have emotions such as fear, anger, frustration,
I'll release them by letting them go.
These emotions function as a red light telling me that I'm in a non-harmonic
situation and I should find a way to resolve it. Once I'm aware of it, I can release
these emotions.
I let in fresh air that spreads oxygen to all my body cells,
And I let go all the tension and emotions I don’t need.
I calm my organs, glands, tissues and cells.
I calm my thoughts like a calm, clear lake.
I calm my emotions like a calm, clear lake.
