According to Marco Scurati, a local Venetian entrepreneur, the answer to Venice's tourism problem lies in the heart of Venice, Piazza San Marco.
The core of Mr. Scurati's proposal suggests limiting access to Piazza San Marco by selling a finite amount of access passes for each day. This strategy would limit the people entering Venice indirectly by limiting access to some of the most popular destinations in Venice. If tourists interested in visiting these destinations were unable to buy an access pass they would consider coming back another day, visiting other parts of the city, or staying overnight which would automatically give them access to Piazza San Marco.
For more information about the San Marco Pass, a summary can be seen in the background section of our project proposal.
Additionally, more information can be seen on Mr. Scurati's website about the San Marco Pass.
