As we spend our Thanksgiving break on the beautiful Amalfi Coast just outside Sorrento, we are looking forward to next week's meetings with local business owners. We will be meeting with Torrefazione Cannaregio (an artisan coffee shop), Luigi Bevilacqua (an Italian fabrics manufacturer), and Orsoni (a mosaic artist). In our interviews, we will ask the owners about their business operation, collaborations, challenges, successes, and production practices. Through these questions, we aim to gain insight into what is successful in the Venetian business sector, and what could be improved. It is our belief that by discussing these topics with people who work in these sectors, we can gain accurate, reliable, first-hand information, which will help us identify trends in the Venetian economy.
We also recently discovered the Consorzio Promovetro Murano, a consortium of Murano glass manufacturers, which works to protect, promote, and defend the age-old art of glassmaking. Such relationships and consortiums are important in preserving Venetian artisans and businesses!
Attached is a screenshot of the questions we will ask business owners, as well as a picture from our day trip to Capri. Although we have been enjoying our mini-vacation--especially the Island of Capri--we are excited to meet with these businesses to learn more about how they operate!
