Section 14 - Methods for counting
Learning intentions:
In this section we will examine:
- The addition and multiplications principles for counting.
- Permutations and their applications to probability.
- Combinations and their applications to probability.
Introduction:
Section 14 introduces methods for counting and their applications to probability. The addition and multiplication principles introduced in 14A lay the foundations of solving probability problems involving mutually exclusive and/or independent events. 14B introduces and explores arrangements and the use of factorials and permutation in solving problems. Finally, 14C covers selections of objects and the use of combinations to in solving problems.
