Hoel Magazine & News Paper Articles

All Hands Magazine

The first "issue" of All Hands was printed as the Bureau of Navigation News Bulletin No. 1 (dated Aug. 30, 1922). Twenty years later, the title was changed to Bureau of Naval Personnel Information Bulletin. As America claimed "Victory in Europe" on the cover of June 1945, the magazine's new banner read, All Hands, and the name stuck.

In the Sep 1962 issue, pg 50 - There is a specific mention of Hoel's Commissioning (3 months after commissioning)

Another good article... The Birth of a Destroyer - USS Benjamin Stoddert DDG-22

Our Navy Magazine - June 1964 - Ship Of The Month

This article in the September 1990 Sea Classics magazine is entitled "Destroyers For Rent".

This was published 1 month prior to the Hoel's decommissioning (Oct 1,1990)

It speaks of the rapid decommissioning of the 1960's era Adams Class DDGs.

It just so happens that our fine lady was chosen for the cover photo of that issue.

The article itself really isn't about the Hoel, but the class, but still focuses mainly on the Waddell DDG-24,

which was the last of the class built for the U.S.

I purchased this on eBay some time in 2015.
