U of U Table Tennis Team (UUTTT) Qualification
After the tryouts, the top 8 rated players from the UUTTC rating system will be invited to join the UUTTT, representing the U of U in upcoming collegiate competitions (If any of the top 8 players declined, the next highest rated player will be invited until all 8 spots are filled). Qualification will be based on the following criteria:
Automatic Qualification:
Players with a USATT or SLCTT rating of 2000 or above, anytime between September 2023 and September 2024.
Players with a USATT or SLCTT rating of 1800 or above, anytime between March 2024 and September 2024.
Tryout Results:
Players' initial UUTTC rating will be assigned based on their performance in the competitive tryout tournament on September 28.
Depending on available spots, top-performing players will be invited to join UUTTT.
Additional Opportunities:
Players who do not make the team during the tryout tournament will still have chances to qualify. We will introduce Ladder Games, starting after the tryout tournament, during our Saturday Open Plays. These ladder games will allow players to improve their rankings by winning higher rated players, keeping everyone motivated and competitive throughout the semester.
The final roster for the UUTTT will be determined before any collegiate events, based on the latest player rankings.
*** Starting from Oct. 3, Thursday trainings with Wesley will only be available to team members, but we will have 1-2 open tables for non-team members to play and everyone is welcome to watch the trainings and learn.
*** The rating system is still under construction, and we will announce in more details later. But to give a general idea, the system will follow but not limit to the rules below:
A player will gain points when beating a higher rated player or lose points when losing to a lower rated player. Number of points gained or lost will be based on the rating gap between the two players before the open play.
A player will gain a small number of points for playing a game.
A player will start losing points after not participating in open play for a certain period of time.
We encourage all members, whether recreational or competitive, to participate and enjoy this exciting opportunity. Good luck to everyone, and we can’t wait to see you at the tryouts!
