ST Semester 2
For EDUC 412, evaluation is a shared responsibility of the Seminar Instructor, the Cooperating Teacher, and Field Supervisor. You must have successful completion and received passing evaluations of the following:
1. Professionalism and Participation
Your attendance at all scheduled classroom practicum and participation in seminar are important components of the course. You will be evaluated for professionalism throughout the course, which includes overall participation, punctuality submitting assignments, responding to emails, active and thoughtful responses and contributions to discussions based on required readings, group presentations and activities, a positive attitude and respect for colleagues.
2. Letter of Introduction to Parents
You will write a Letter of Introduction to the parents introducing yourself and explaining your role in the classroom during the semester. The letter can be part of your Cooperating Teacher’s newsletter to families. Your letter should include the following:
· Your name, that you are a student teacher from UNM, the days you will be in your cooperating teacher’s classroom
· A short biographic statement letting families know your educational and work background (be sure to highlight any previous experiences working with children)
· You may also want to include a brief mention of your hobbies, interests, special talents
· A closing in which you share your excitement about having the opportunity to get to know and work with their child; let parents know they can contact you through the school’s phone number
IMPORTANT: Proofread your letter and review it in consultation with your Cooperating Teacher for approval before sending it to parents. Both your name and your Cooperating Teacher’s name should be included in the letter.
3. Professional Reading
You will read and discuss foundational education articles related to culturally responsive teaching, classroom management, effective lesson planning during seminar to be applied in your teaching and learning practice.
4. Lesson Plan
You must submit one lesson plan for evaluation by your Seminar Instructor. This lesson plan must follow the UNM Elementary Education lesson plan format and uploaded to TK20.
5. Reflection Journals
You will maintain your Teacher Journal to record teaching/learning experiences. During each seminar meeting, you will share excerpts of your field experience, observations and issues in your student teaching classroom/school. You will be invited to join EdWeb Professional Community where you will post weekly teacher reflections.
6. Log of Hours
You will complete a log of hours in Tk20 that requires the weekly approval of the Cooperating Teacher. This information is described thoroughly in the Student Handbook.
7. Evidence of Practices Evaluation of Dispositions and Habits of Mind Self-Assessment
At the end of the semester, you will be required to complete the Evidence of Practices: Dispositions and Habits of Mind as a self-assessment. This evaluation will need to be completed electronically and uploaded into TK20.
8. End of Semester Final Reflection
At the end of the semester, you will be required to complete a final reflection on your accomplishments during the semester. This will need to be completed electronically and uploaded into TK20. You will also complete a video of your final teaching reflection on flipgrid.
9. Community Cultural Observation Presentation
The purpose of this assignment is to become more familiar with your community, unique to your school. You will have an opportunity to investigate through the lens of a sociologist, historian, anthropologist, artist, economist, political scientist, geographer, or linguist. You will tell the story of your community and share with your peers. (Portfolio)
10. Extension of your Teaching
It is important to give back to the school and the community that host your placement. The teacher candidates will participate in their school community by teaching in their classrooms and also by contributing to the greater school community through volunteering for an after-school event or inviting guests to your school as an extension of your solo teaching unit. You will talk with your cooperating teacher to find out what school events are upcoming during the semester and then you will choose one to help out with.
11. Teacher Vignette Reflections (2)
As a reflective practitioner, you will take time to reflect more deeply about an incident, teaching event, student, dynamic, interaction in a more thoughtful stance through your teacher perspective. Analyzing the details will allow for more insightful solutions, pedagogic practices, or changes in your teaching. (EdWeb & Portfolio)
12. Professional Portfolio
You will create a professional portfolio to house your teaching and learning during each phase of student teaching.
13. Formal Observations. Your MT and US will formally observe you during your teaching offering feedback. Your receptivity to this feedback is part of the habits of reflective teaching and learning. You will also post your reflections of the observations on TK20.
IMPORTANT: Written assignments conform to APA style of writing. Be sure your name and the date are on all of your assignments. Proofread your work to catch spelling and grammar errors so that your work will be nearly error free when you submit it.

Like all cultures there are ways of thinking that are inherently accepted by the school community. You will have an opportunity to look more closely at just what these values and beliefs are by observing what is posted, expressions used schoolwide, mission statements, interview with principal (vice-principal).

12. Scavenger Hunt. The purpose of the school scavenger hunt is to become acquainted with the support staff, administrators and teachers at your school. Knowing their names and how to spell them is important so you can address them when you see them in a professional way.
