Season Seven
Jonas Quinn returns to the SGC with news that the naquadriah mines of Kelowna are not native to his world and are threatening to cause an explosion in the planet's core that will leave his home world uninhabitable. Can SG-1 find a solution before a catastrophe wipes out millions?
Corin Nemec has a story credit on this episode.
The control room receives a signal from the Kelownans and Jonas comes through the gate.
"Mr Quinn, good to see you again, " Hammond greets him.
Jonas explains that they have discovered that the Naquadriah isn't native to Kelowna but the Goa'uld that originally ruled the planet created it from Naquadah. They found a reference to the process in ancient documents. However the process is still happening, and it's getting unstable, if they don't do something Kelowna will be destroyed!
Credits.
Back on Kelowna, Jonas explains more to Sam, they conclude that Naquadriah doesn't exist in nature. A girl enters; there's an awkward moment, before she is introduced as Kianna. She has more test results but they still need more information.
The First Minster Dreylock arrives on Earth with counsellors of the other two nations. We can only offer them limited evacuation. The male counsellor, Andari explains that the planet is now called Langaria, a name that was chosen by committee from several common names for the planet. Daniel explains that although the explosion will be in the Kelownan part of the planet, the whole planet will be affected and become uninhabitable.
Sam, Kianna and Jonas are doing calculations, with much technobabble and references to quantum physics. Sam says it can't be 3000 years since the process began it's only been a few. Suddenly the room shakes…an earthquake! The epicentre of the quake was a small pocket of concentrated Naquadriah!
Madrona is offered as a planet for the relocation of the Langaria, the woman, the Tiranian Councillor says that they would like an uninhabited planet. Teal'c explains that is no good they need somewhere that has an infrastructure.
The three counsellors row. They are told three locations is not practical.
Jonas has returned to earth and he and Sam are asked by the First Minster what they have found, Jonas says the bomb test 2 years ago, started this latest reaction. The Goa'uld that ruled Langaria did start the first reaction to transform Naquadah into Naquadriah, however the process would only have taken a year and over the centuries would decayed back into Naquadah.
The three councillors row some more, the other two are not happy that Kelowna is to blame for the impending destruction of the planet.
Jack loses his temper, says, "For crying out loud! Who cares whose fault it is?" he walks out!
Daniel and Teal'c catch up with him, this is diplomacy he tells Jack, needs more patience.
"I'm Fresh out," replies Jack
"As am I" says Teal'c
On Langaria, Sam has found a fault line in the Naquadriah, which means they may be able to isolate it, would need to drill down and place a small nuclear device. Jonas says, "I have something to show you!"
It's huge drill bit attached to an underground excavation module
"Cool," says Sam
However there's a problem, the drill can't move fast enough only 80 metres an hour, but Jonas has an idea they could use modified Tok'ra tunnelling crystals.
Kianna doesn't want Jonas to keep telling them everything; they are very close, it's clear they know each other more than just as colleagues, this is confirmed when they kiss.
The counsellors are still bickering and Daniel is attempting to mediate.
Sam is very impressed with the evacuation module; he certainly learned a few things in his time at the SGC! But Jonas tells her that Kianna is the one that did it all. Sam asks what's going on, meaning between the two of them, she's not blind. Jonas says it's at the developmental stage, but he does find her interesting.
The next scene shows Kianna alone, she injects herself with something!
Teal'c comes through the gate with a box of crystals, the machine should be really in 24 hours.
Sam asks Jonas if he designed the power systems, she thinks it looks like Goa'uld generators and they are running at 130% efficiency, Jonas says that's impossible.
Kianna is arrested, a Goa'uld communication device was found in her belongings. Her eyes glow, she's a Goa'uld! Sam is holding the syringe; it's an injection that stops the symbiote from being detected. The Goa'uld serves Ba'al. She is also fighting to save this world, Jonas asks to speak to the host, we hear the girl plead with him but Jonas is not interested, "Get her out of here!" is his response.
The machine is fired up, but they are having trouble controlling it, it's stalled and the drill heads are ripped, fortunately it's only a stimulation!
Hammond and Daniel explain to the counsellors that the Goa'uld is the best person to do the job, Daniel reasons that she improved the systems only because Ba'al wants the Naquadriah too.
You make the right choice putting your trust in me Kianna tells them, no they don't trust her. She calls Teal'c the Sho'va, he's not impressed! They prepare for launch. 54321 [The pod reminds me somewhat of the mole from Thunderbirds.]
Hammond and the First minister tells the other counsellors that the Goa'uld Kianna has received a transmission from Ba'al, if they don't answer he may return!
Something is wrong on the module Kianna needs to go to the engine room; Jonas goes with her, as he doesn't trust her.
Still the counsellors debate!
The pressure is rising, Kianna fixes it. She says she has found the company of a human intriguing and anyway Jonas never knew the host before she was implanted, Jonas rejects her!
Now the module is moving through molten rock the outside temperature is 700 degrees.
Jack and Daniel discuss the whole diplomacy thing, Jack places his hands on Daniel's' shoulders, he thinks he can help him out.
Sam and Kianna disagree on the best way to protect the ship, Sam wants to divert more power to the shields in the end Kianna agrees. They start to lose hull integrity, but they are past the worse the temperature is dropping.
Sam says, "we made it through"
"Impressive" acknowledges Kianna.
And the threesome are still arguing!
" Oh save your breath Daniel!" Jack tells them we like the Madronans so the deal's off, "You are toast!…That's what you get for digging around" [LOL! Gotta love Jack!]
The module is now as deep as they can get it, but it's not enough they are 1 kilometre off target. Sam tells them that dropping the bomb now would be pointless.
"Then we have failed," says Teal'c
Going back to the surface to repair the module isn't an option; it's too late, as it would take too long. Jonas suggests they use the remaining crystals to make a tunnel, wide enough for one person.
Kianna will go, she insists, as her symbiote will protect her. She isn't after all a servant of Ba'al. She's after the Naquadriah for herself!
Sam preps her for the journey then she climbs down the ladder into the tunnel. They wait as she descends, it's very hot and she is injured by the time she reaches the right place and sets the detonator.
An urgent alarm sounds, "this is not good" says Sam.
They are losing power down to 70% as the generator is damaged.
"So much for my Empire" mutters Kianna.
Unless they begin their ascent NOW, they will not get back. They don't want to leave her behind.
"I'm already dead!"
Jonas insists, " come back."
"Jonas if that is out of concern for the host, no good, it's already too late, she's too damaged."
" We are not going without you, so shut up and get moving!"
In Cheyenne Mountain, they wait for news, concerned that they haven't heard anything yet.
In the module, they are still waiting for Kianna.
" We have no choice but to begin our ascent," says Teal'c
There's a bang on the hatch; they pull Kianna into the module.
Powering engines, they begin to ascent.
"You waited, " says the clearly weakened Kianna to Jonas
" You held up your end of the bargain."
" Was that your only reason?"
Cut to Jonas but he says nothing.
" I already know your answer."
The Stargate activates, the technician tells Hammond that they are receiving audio only, it's Langaria, they did it, but there's no word from the module yet.
The module reappears in the hanger…they are back.
In the Gateroom, Jonas stands at the foot of the ramp as the first chevron moves.
Daniel joins him, " Miss it?"
" Yeah I do."
The first chevron moves into place.
Daniel speaks very fast here; the gist is, " Well judging by what you have to deal with back in Kelowna, life threatening danger than one of those council meetings any day."
"Yeah tell ya don't know what Jack said to them but they are being a bit more co-operative."
" Let's hope it lasts."
Sam and Kianna arrive Sam asks how ask how she's feeling, Kianna says fine I guess, it all feels like a dream, the Goa'uld symbiote is dead, gave itself to save her.
Time to go, Jonas says farewell to SG-1 and walks up the ramp with Kianna to the open wormhole.
