CMMP is spread out through the LCN and also in physics (Basement, mezzanine 4th floor and Wilkins building). The main labs in the physics buildings are all in the basement. We also share the common room which is A13 with all the postgrads in physics.
the official CMMP website is here: http://www.cmmp.ucl.ac.uk/
If anyone is up for editing and revamping the CMMP website, there is money to pay a postgraduate student to do this so if you are interested please email Neal Skipper: n.skipper@ucl.ac.uk
This is an unofficial facebook group for raising any issues/organising social activities concerning CMMP. Please join the group and we can start using it productively! https://www.facebook.com/groups/UCLCMMP/
If you are interested in attending a conference and want to apply for travel funding, this is now done through the department (NOT the Grad school). There is limited funding here but you will need to speak to your supervisor about applying for this.
There are weekly seminars in the Ramsey Lecture theatre (in the chemistry building) on a Wednesday 1-2pm which, if you are part of the LCN, you should attend. It’s a great way to get insight into the science that is happening at UCL.
Bi-monthly seminars are held on a Friday morning (New Materials Meeting) which you will be emailed about. This is for members of CMMP to practice their talks for conferences or to share new findings with the group. Chris Howard organises this so if you would like to speak at one of these meetings please email him: c.howard@ucl.ac.uk.
Neal Skipper (head of the CMMP department)
Dorothy Duffy (head of postgraduate studies for CMMP) Any academic queries etc, please speak to Dorothy.
Nadia Waller (finance officer)
Andrew Gormanly (IT support)
The people to speak to about making a complaint are Neal Skipper and Andrew Fisher.
If your grant money is managed by the LCN there are different people to speak to. Unfortunately the LCN is in the process of hiring new staff for the administrative business so for now please speak to Denise Ottley.
Weekly tea and coffee on Thursday at 4pm in E7. There are no specific days that we go for drinks because the groups in CMMP are so spread out in the building but we can try and improve this by posting in the facebook group!
