The committee organises a series of events throughout the year. During term time these are approximately fortnightly. Most events are post-graduate seminars; but there are other events too.
Post-graduate seminars: informal short talks (20-25 minutes) given by PhD students to PhD students with food (pizza) and drinks provided. They are a great place to find out what research is going on in the department and to meet other physics PhD students
Debates: to add a bit of variety a topic, often how scientific research relates to society, is chosen for discussion instead of two talks. There are lively and thought-provoking, raising questions and awareness about how academia fits into the world.
Quizzes: not your standard pub quiz, nor even a physics based pub quiz. In teams answer questions, complete challenges and be prepared to laugh!
Hackathon: two days of team work and transferable skills: communication; time pressures and deadlines; problem solving.
