2. Guest Speaker: Dr Noel Carolan
Dr Noel Carolan, a national, local, and family historian came along to our meeting this morning to talk about the release of the 1926 census next April 2026. For over an hour Noel shared his knowledge, enthusiasm, and expertise with the group on why this event is of great interest. This is the third census in the 20th century and unlike previous census every 10 years this census has a gap of 15 years since the 1911 census. This census was taken in a period of great change including large numbers of people moving between Ireland and the UK/Northern Ireland. The talk was remarkable and kept everyone’s attention for over an hour.
At the end of the presentation Louise thanked him. Following several follow up enquiries Noel has provided us with a document of resources to circulate.
In addition Louise has also shared details of the following upcoming event of interest.
Oct 21 @ 19:30 – 20:30. Follow up Talk via Zoom: Census Records in the Virtual Record Treasury of Ireland. Irish Family History Society
Louise advised that Brian Gurrin, researcher with the Virtual Record Treasure of Ireland will present a talk on the Census Records in the Virtual Record Treasury of Ireland.
This talk will be presented over Zoom and members are required to register by email request to info@ifhs.ie. Zoom link will issue 24-48 hrs before the talk.
Non-members must register via their shop and pay €5 to attend.
