1) Coastal Disaster Management: Big Data Analytics

Big data analytics for disaster management

Project duration: 2018 - 2020

Budget: £250K

We will develop big data technologies and big data-powered visualisation tools to allow an unprecedented capacity to crunch data from distributed datasets that will provide innovative insights on environmental system and processes for raising awareness regarding natural hazards and environmental degradation.

We will use fine-tuned location and navigation technology to identify the exact position of a limited disaster. Moreover, data measurements and mapping technology to show responders the impact of disasters will also be developed.

Similar approaches will be developed to highlight environmental impacts to communities and relevant agencies. Through the proliferation of mobile and social media solutions, we can early-detect disasters and enhance relief communications or identify evolving environmental impacts and alert communities. Using records about geography, population, mobile-device usage and more, we develop algorithms that discern underlying patterns and associations across numerous collected data and then allowing quickly react to disaster and impact scenarios.
