Note: This session focuses on the hazardous materials transportation cooperative research opportunities and funding contained within the recently passed transportation bill (SAFETEA-LU). U.S. Congressman Elijah E. Cummings of Maryland’s 7th District discusses his introduction of the cooperative hazmat research language into the legislation. In addition, details on the U.S. Department of Transportation mandated research projects and the role of the National Academies in meeting the cooperative research requirements will be presented.
