Grading scheme:
The final grade is given by the following scheme:
homework (10%), the first midterm (20%), the second midterm (20%), and the final (50%).
You must attend the final exam to pass the course.
Homework:
Late homework is not accepted.
Do not submit homework via email. The homework with lowest score will be dropped.
Homework will be collected at the beginning of due date lectures and return in section meetings.
You are encouraged to work together on homework but you have to write your own solutions.
You cannot copy someone else's solution verbatim or copy solutions from books.
3 problems will be graded. Each has 3 points. One more point for neatness and stapling. Don't forget to staple your homework.
Form a group to study together
Purposes of homework:
To understand the material
To learn to write a mathematical proof, to communicate to other people via "math language." Finding a solution is not enough, learn how to write it clearly. Pretend that you are teaching or explaining the solution to your friends. If your friends don't understand, so do I and the TA.
Exams:
Two midterms, one final. See the schedule for the times and locations.
There will be not be any make-up exams except in extreme and documented circumstances.
During exams:
Please follow instruction written in the exam-papers.
When you want to go out of the class temporarily, please put your phone and your exam-paper on your table.
To prevent false identity, each student has to bring their student ID to exams and will be asked to sign on an attendance sheet.
A photo of the class during exams will be taken in order to know the relative position of each student.
Re-grading policy: After a midterm is returned, you have two weeks to submit a re-grading request. Please write down on a separate piece of paper the reason you think that you want your exam to be re-graded. Do not rewrite your solution.
Several random homework/midterms will be scanned before returning to students to prevent cheating.
Final exams cannot be returned, but you are welcome to review it in my office or in the student service office.
