Personal Information:
Lawnie (Lawn) was born into a musical family. His brother Guy was the famed fiddler for the Red Fox Chasers, and his brother Mack and also played music. However, Lawn's fiddling style was markedly different from Guy's. Lawn's children tend to think of Uncle Guy as more of a square-dance fiddler and their father a smoother, finer fiddler. Lawn's son-in-law Donald Shaw points out that Lawn always attended the classical performances that passed through Sparta.
In addition to fiddling, Lawn was a remarkable gunsmith and metal worker. His old homeplace is located on Dewitt Rd. in Alleghany County, NC.
