Cleve Andrews

1895-1969

Cleve worked at the pipe factroy and had an 11 acre farm just outside Sparta. He played old-time/bluegrass fiddle. He played with the Little River Boys that became the Green Mountain Boys. Ernest Joines has been unable to find any recording by him. I think he found one that's too terrible to use. Once, listening to WBRF in the evening, Jr. Maxwell heard an old time tune and he said the fiddler sounded just like Cleve Andrews. It might have been Nancy Sluys, but I have no recollection of it by now except the tune was "Walking in My Sleep." According to Jr. Maxwell, Cleve's style was a mix of bluegrass and old-time, along the lines of Otis Burris. - TJ Worthington

Probably buried at Pleasant Home Cemetery on Rd. 1412 off of 18.
