A long time ago, in the town of Nazareth(拿撒勒),lived a young woman named Mary.
She was engaged to be married to Joseph, who was a carpenter.
One day, while Mary was at home cleaning her room, an angel suddenly appeared.
The angel said. "God has found favor with you. You will have a baby boy, and are to give him the name Jesus."
The angel then disappeared, and Mary was left alone.

Soon after, Joseph found out that Mary was going to have a baby.
Joseph was confused and upset by this.
But an angel came to him in a dream and said, "Joseph do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife.
The child Mary is going to have is God's son, and you are to give him the name Jesus."
When Joseph woke up he remembered what the angel had said.
He knew that everything was okay, and he wasn't upset anymore.

In those days the government decided that they should count everyone that lived in that area of the world.
So Joseph had to take Mary to his town, Bethlehem(伯利恆) to register(登記).
It took Mary and Joseph a long time to get to Bethlehem.
This was very tiring for Mary because she was soon going to have a baby.

When they reached the town, all the hotels were full and there was nowhere that they could stay.
Finally, someone felt bad for them, and offered them a place to stay.
They stayed in a small barn(穀倉) where animals were kept.
Mary and Joseph were thankful that they at least had a place to lay down.
It was warm, and there was plenty of straw to lay on.

That night an exciting, wonderful thing happened.
Mary and Joseph had a baby!
But it wasn't just any baby, it was Baby Jesus! The creator of the whole world, the King of Kings, the one who would save the world.
The little baby boy fell asleep in Mary's arms and she wrapped him in cloths and laid him in a manger(馬槽) on some clean straw.
Mary and Joseph soon fell asleep, they were so glad to have this special baby join their family.

At the same time, on a hillside some shepherds were watching over their sheep.
A bright light appeared in the sky.
They were very afraid.
It was an angel sent by God.
The angel told them not to be afraid, because he had some good news.
He said the Son of God had been born and they would find Him in Bethlehem.

The shepherds wanted to go and see the baby.
When they arrived at the stable(馬棚), they were filled with joy at seeing Jesus lying in the manger.
They knelt down and worshipped(崇拜) Him.

Far away in the East, Wise Men(智者) saw a new star shining high in the sky.
These men studied the stars and they knew this was a very special star.
A bright new star appeared it meant that a great ruler(統治者) had been born.

The Wise Men decided to find this new ruler.
They went to Jerusalem(耶路撒冷) to see King Herod(希律王), as they thought the baby would be in the palace.
They asked to see the child that would be King of the Jews(猶太人).
The king was troubled.
He thought this new king may take away his throne.
He told them to return when they had found the baby so that he could worship the child himself.

The Wise Men set off to find the baby.
They were guided by the star to the stable in Bethlehem(伯利恆).
Here they knelt down and worshipped Jesus.
They gave him gifts of gold, frankincense(乳香) and myrrh(沒藥--用作香料或藥品的一種樹脂)

That night, the men had the same dream where an angel warned them that King Herod wanted to kill Jesus and told them not to go back to his palace.
The Wise Men went back to their own country without calling to see Herod.

Soon after Joseph had a dream where an angel told him to take Mary and Jesus to Egypt as King Herod had ordered that Jesus be killed.
They left Bethlehem right away.
When the wise men did not return, Herod ordered that baby boys in Bethlehem be killed.
They did not find Jesus as he was safe.
